1번 지문
Water Dance
SOME PEOPLE SAY that I am one thing.
Others say that I am many.
Ever since the world began
I have been moving in an endless circle
Sometimes I fall from the sky.
Ever since the first astronaut went into outer space and looked down below, the Earth has been called “the Blue Planet.” The planet appears blue due to the fact that more than two-thirds of its entire surface is covered with water. Water is also found as ice at the North Pole and the South Pole as well as in the atmosphere in the form of clouds and water vapor. In fact, there is water all over the planet in various forms because of the process known as the water cycle.
2번 지문
Thanks to gravity, the Earth does not lose any of its water. Therefore, despite the fact that a great deal of water is constantly moving, the amount of water on the entire planet does not change. Water does, however, change its form. For instance, it is frozen solid in glaciers and appears in its liquid form in oceans, rivers, lakes, and streams. It is also present in the atmosphere. Water may assume a solid form when it falls to the ground as snow, and it may also appear as liquid water droplets. And even though it is not visible, water vapor exists in the air. The reason that water takes on so many forms has to do with changes in the temperature.
Drawn upward
by warm sunlight,
I rise into the air.
I disappear.
3번 지문
The picture above shows how both evaporation and condensation occur. When the water in a teapot is boiled, the water absorbs heat. The energy that it receives from the heat from the teapot causes water to evaporate and thus turn into water vapor. Water vapor that is invisible rises and escapes from the teapot. However, when the vapor comes into contact with the cooler air, it cools down, condenses, and becomes tiny droplets of water. Condensation is the process through which a gas, such as water vapor, changes into a liquid. Evaporation is the process through which a liquid changes into a gas. Precipitation is the process through which water falls to the ground in liquid or solid form.
I am the clouds.
Carried by winds
from distant seas.
I move,
growing heavier,
growing darker,
returning.
4번 지문
Let’s take a closer look at these processes. As water vapor gets higher in the sky, the temperature goes down. The loss of heat results in water vapor condensing into tiny water droplets or ice crystals. These particles form clouds and stay in the sky. When the clouds become too heavy, they release their contents by letting the droplets and crystals fall to the Earth’s surface as rain, snow, sleet, ice, or hail. Any type of solid or liquid water that falls to the ground is called precipitation. Some precipitation is absorbed into the ground and becomes groundwater. Most of it, however, finds its way to rivers and streams that will eventually flow back to the oceans. Thus, the cycle of water is completed before it sets out for another journey. To celebrate the cycle of water, Thomas Locker, an American painter, wrote a book called Water Dance, where he included these beautiful words:
I am the rainbow.
I am one thing.
I am many things.
I am water.
This is my dance through our world.
