1번 지문
Located at about 3,600 meters above sea level in the High Pamir mountains of Tajikistan, Lake Karakul is the highest lake in the entire region. Having been formed by a meteorite that struck Earth about 25 million years ago, the lake sits inside an impact crater. Surrounded by salt deposits and having no outflowing rivers, it is one of the saltiest lakes in all of Asia. It is so salty, in fact, that only a single species of marine creature, the stone loach, a fish that lives on the sandy bottoms of lakes, is able to survive in it. Its marshy wetlands and islands, however, attract a wide range of migratory birds, including the Himalayan vulture and the Tibetan sandgrouse. The lake’s high salt content also makes it difficult for humans to navigate it. This is because their boats float so high in the dense water that they are continually at risk of tipping over.
2번 지문
Last year, I decided to spend the New Year holiday by myself. I didn’t want to go to a noisy party. What I needed was a few days of peace and quiet, so I booked a room in an old country house. I arrived on New Year’s Eve. It being a cold and rainy evening, my heart began to pound with excitement. The house looked amazing. I hurried up the front steps and knocked on the door. After a while, the door slowly opened with a creaking sound, revealing a frowning old woman. Without a word, she led me slowly up to my room. The house was dark, empty and completely silent. With no one moving or making a sound, I could hear a clock ticking two rooms away. It was like being in a prison. Staying there had been my decision, but it was not a good one.
3번 지문
Improving your gestural communication involves more than just knowing when to nod or shake hands. It’s about using gestures to complement your spoken messages, adding layers of meaning to your words. Openhanded gestures, for example, can indicate honesty, creating an atmosphere of trust. You invite openness and collaboration when you speak with your palms facing up. This simple yet powerful gesture can make others feel more comfortable and willing to engage in conversation. But be careful of the trap of over-gesturing. Too many hand movements can distract from your message, drawing attention away from your words. Imagine a speaker whose hands move quickly like birds, their message lost in the chaos of their gestures. Balance is key. Your gestures should highlight your words, not overshadow them.
